The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), headquartered in Seoul, Republic of Korea, is an intergovernmental organization founded to support and promote a model of economic growth known as green growth; which targets key aspects of economic performance such as poverty reduction and job creation, as well as social inclusion and environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and the private sector to help build economies that achieve strong growth and are less carbon intensive, more resilient to climate change, and more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources.

The GGGI Uzbekistan Country Office (CO) is hosted by theMinistry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change (the former Ministry for Natural Resources) in its building in Tashkent, and has a field office in Nukus, embedded within the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

GGGI’s Internship Program aims to provide project-oriented learning opportunities for students and recent graduates (within the last 12 months) to gain experience through specific assignments based on GGGI’s current operational needs. GGGI welcomes motivated, open-minded, and self-directed to apply. You will be given an opportunity to work directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as innovative interventions for green growth.

 

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVE

The internship position will be with the GGGI Uzbekistan second office in Nukus. The intern will work closely with the project team members in Nukus, under the direct supervision of the Communication Focal Point/Associate for Gender and Social Inclusion in Nukus and Junior Communications Consultant in Tashkent. They will closely collaborate with the Project Manager and National Project Coordinator, who are in the country office (CO) in Tashkent. S/he will support implementation of the Aral Sea GRIP project and the Country Office Communication Plan. S/he will be closely involved in the media campaign and in-person sessions for Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) awareness raising and capacity building and the Business Development Platform (BDP), and support the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) project under the CO. 

 

MORE SPECIFICALLY, S/HE WILL

A. Aral Sea GRIP implementation

  • Support GGGI’s media service provider to optimally conduct the media campaign for CCA awareness in Karakalpakstan, in close coordination with the Nukus team
  • Support the effective implementation of in-person sessions for Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) awareness-raising and capacity building sessions in Karakalpakstan
  • Support documentation and monitoring of the activities above

B. Communication Plan Implementation

  • Monitor communication plan implementation together with the Communications focal point
  • Continuously update the tracking document of all publications about and by GGGI Uzbekistan and regularly consolidate and update the list of project stakeholders and their contact data
  • Support content development for press releases, newsletters, and/or website and social-media posts (Project website ggkp.org/aralseagrip, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Support timely updating of news and other information on the project website on the GGKP platform
  • Support data visualization by creating infographics and visual reports
  • Assist with the graphic design and layout of publications and presentations (powerpoint slides) and edit these according to GGGI’s visual and communication guidelines
  • Assist in producing, obtaining, editing and managing high-quality photos and video clips and in obtaining and registering consent of all people who are depicted in videos and photos for GGGI
  • Conduct weekly media monitoring of news relevant to GGGI for the Country Office
  • Translate/edit in English, Karakalpak and Russian: Communication (e-mails, letters), project-related materials (info briefs, newsletter), knowledge products (reports, analyses) and website and social media posts.
  • Organize official letters (incoming, outgoing) into online folders

C. Business Development Platform (BDP) operation (greenaral.uz/Jasilawil app)

  • Pro-actively support the optimisation of the Karakalpak version of the BDP
  • Support uploading multiple content and information products in the BDP and it’s Telegram channel
  • Develop content for GGGI newsletters, web, and social media posts about the BDP
  • Monitor BDP outreach efforts by tracking communication channel updates and social-media statistics

 D. Others

  • Assist in organizing major meetings, events and advocacy activities in Karakalpakstan
  • Assist in oral translations between colleagues and between GGGI and their partners (Karakalpak, Russian, English)
  • Support Project Coordination and Admin Associate in day-to-day activities.
  • Other tasks as required by the Nukus office and Country Office

 

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to this internship and the Institute’s work, such as Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, ICT, International Development, or other related fields.
  • Possess graphic design skills and experience with programmes such as Microsoft Powerpoint, Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or other programmes.
  • Have computer literacy in standard office software applications.
  • Have an excellent command of English, Karakalpak and Russian, in written and spoken form.
  • Experience in translation into and from Karakalpak is a key advantage
  • Proficiency in Uzbek language is an advantage.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions. 

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas. 

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location. 

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information. 

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships. 

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
