Context
Somalia is experiencing a complex and protracted humanitarian crisis characterized by conflict, drought, displacement, food insecurity, and limited resources. Approximately 8.25 million people in Somalia require urgent humanitarian assistance. The ongoing floods have further exacerbated the situation, affecting 1.7 million people, displacing 695,000 individuals, and resulting in a death toll of 55, including 14 children. UNFPA is actively responding to the flood situation by providing essential SRH and GBV services in the South West, Jubaland, and Hirshabelle States. Given the escalating humanitarian needs in Somalia, UNFPA requires a dedicated candidate to enhance the visibility of its humanitarian activities, advocate for the protection and prioritization of women and girls, mobilize resources, and showcase results and achievements. The selected candidate will lay the foundation for increased reporting on UNFPA's flood response activities in 2023 and beyond.
Task description
In the context of the ongoing flood situation in Somalia, the online volunteer will contribute to the production, editing, fact-checking, proofreading, and quality control of reports. Working collaboratively with field offices and hub managers, the volunteer will monitor, analyze, and report gaps in humanitarian needs and responses related to GBV and SRH. The assigned tasks include developing various written documents such as situation reports, flash updates, factsheets, humanitarian bulletins, background papers, and related materials. The volunteer will assist in compiling relevant information and analysis for appeals seeking international assistance, as well as embark on virtual field missions to collect and disseminate information on the impact of the humanitarian crisis on women and girls. Additionally, drafting regular weekly and monthly updates for internal and external audiences, including donors and the media, is a crucial responsibility. The volunteer will consolidate and analyze data on program implementation, achievements, and indicators to facilitate the preparation of periodic and activity-specific reports in a timely manner.
