Mission and objectives

UNISFA was established in July 2011 under authority of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). UNISFA is mandated to Strengthen the capacity of the Abyei Police Service (APS) by providing support, including the training of personnel, and coordinate with the APS on matters of law and order, Monitor and verify the redeployment of armed forces from the Abyei area in accordance with the 20 June 2011 Agreement, Provide de-mining assistance and technical advice, Facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and free movement of humanitarian personnel in coordination with relevant Abyei Area bodies, When requested and in cooperation with the APS, provide security for oil infrastructure in the Abyei Administrative Area (AAA) and later to organize the referendum The Council also authorized UNISFA under Chapter VII to: • Protect UN Personnel, facilities, installations, and equipment. • Ensure the security and freedom of UN and humanitarian personnel and members of the Joint Military Observers Committee and Joint Military Observer Teams established by the 20 June Agreement. • Protect civilians under imminent threat of physical violence; and protect the Area from incursions by unauthorized elements and ensure security.

Context

UNISFA seeks to strengthen its internet Radio operation with disseminating information of importance and promoting awareness of the Mission’s mandate to diverse audiences across the country and liaises with other Units, UN Agencies, NGO, and Government Entities for the narrative and messaging of its mandate.

Task description

Within limits of delegated authority, the Online Volunteer will be responsible for the following duties: -Responsible for production of radio news, features, and other current affairs programmes, as well as oversee the design, and development of other radio content to support the implementation of UNISFA mandate for local, regional, and international use. -Support in integrating new media tools (website, social media, etc.) into radio production and devise an effective distribution system. -Identify priority themes for broadcasting on UNISFA Internet Radio, establish and maintain production schedules for timely program delivery. -Develop and maintain positive and constructive working relations with UNISFA's digital/social media team. -Supervise editorial inputs for radio and UNISFA’s social media platforms, ensuring coverage of mission-related activities. -Generates and provide raw audio material for mission products, including community outreach, internal mission use (e.g., training), and dissemination to local and international media. -Interpret the mission mandate in the context of radio/multimedia production, exercising editorial judgment over programs. -Performs other duties, as assigned. Compliance and Regulations: -Ensure adherence to broadcasting regulations, copyright laws, and ethical standards. -Stay informed about industry regulations and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance. Expected output ⁻Crafting a weekly captivating and educational radio segment a in harmony with UNISFA's goals and policies. This includes news, interviews, learning materials, and features focusing on peacekeeping activities. ⁻ Managing a weekly technical elements of radio production, such as capturing, refining, and amalgamating audio, to guarantee broadcasts of superior quality. ⁻A weekly basis Collaboration with personnel from UNISFA, members of the local community atleast thrice a week, and other volunteers as needed, to create content that furthers the objectives of the mission. ⁻Continuous Shaping content specifically to encourage peace, stability, and unity in the area, consistent with the responsibilities of UNISFA. ⁻ Making sure all Weekly content aligns with the core values and guidelines of the United Nations, which include impartiality, integrity, and a celebration of diversity. ⁻Consistently assessing feedback from the audience and officials from UNISFA to refine and elevate the impact and quality of the radio programs.
