Who we are

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

 

Purpose of the position

 

The Finance Business Partner (FBP) Impact on Beneficiary ensures that finance strategies and objectives are aligned with the objectives and needs of the institution on its willingness to better assess our impact on beneficiary and the cost associated to it. The partner is a recognized expert on all finance related matters and shares intelligence and insights on finance with the Métier management team to ensure finance strategies are aligned to the Métier’s objectives and needs. To be successful, the role mixes both analytical and communication skills to understand the audience and deliver the information in a clear and user-friendly manner

Main duties & responsibilities

 

  • Acts as a strategic partner on finance matters related to a better evaluation of our impact on beneficiaries and the cost associated to it, leads ICRC’s controlling strategy and is accountable for its delivery and implementation across the Métier.
  • Leads and supports the development of stronger analysis between programmatic and financial KPI for the FAD unit
  • Is a strategic partner of the management team of Protection and essential services and Operations and takes active part in reflection, analysis and understanding of the Métier’s environment and finance needs
  • Partners closely with programs & operations providing KPIs, management reporting, and analysis to drive insights, financial facts and make recommendations for strategic decision
  • Accountable for developing global financial analysis and KPIs in all locations (headquarters, field, and shared service centers), providing options and scenarios for financially sound decisions that consider risks and opportunities
  • Develops, supports, and leads the implementation (with evidence-based data and the support of FAD such as BPOs and centers of expertise) appropriate Finance strategies that closely support the programs’ strategic objectives
  • Leads the reinforcement of capabilities to strengthen partnerships with the movement and others operational partners.  
  • Ensures compliance with finance policies, procedures and supports the design, development, preparation, and automation of management reports
  • Leads the analytical training (financial and non-financial data) to reinforce FAD business partnering within the institution. 
  • Interprets and deals with incomplete data, and exercise judgement where there is ambiguity
  • Seamless interaction with Heads of units both protection and essential services and Regional Financial Business Partners
  • Availability to undertake field missions in places where ICRC operates to gain best understanding of the operational.

Desired profile and skills

 

  • Typically, 10-12 years of overall professional experience including 3-4 years of relevant working experience in a humanitarian setting, such as assessments, monitoring and evaluation, research design and analysis, etc
  • Experience in programs management and result based monitoring.
  • Experience in budgeting, controlling, forecasting and financial analysis is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and stakeholder management skills
  • Financial knowledge with analytical skills as well as exposure to project management framework
  • Experience in reporting tools (Tableau, R…) is an asset.

Education required

 

  • Master’s degree in economics, finance, business administration or equivalent.
  • Computer proficiency and interest in new technologies.
  • Fluent command of English; knowledge of another ICRC working language an asset.
