Purpose of consultancy

To contribute to the technical work of the Department of Health and Migration in WHO headquarters to ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of knowledge pertaining to information materials and products.

Background

As part of the Healthier Populations Division, the Department of Health and Migration represents the Organization and provides global direction on the technical area of health and migration, in line with Global Action Plan on the Promotion of Health of Refgees and Migrants, GPW13, SDG, and other overarching frameworks in achieving significant health status gains for refugee and migrant population. Following are the five core functions of the Department:

1) Provide global leadership, high-level advocacy, and dialogue to raise awareness and political commitments and coordinate and policy development on health and migration.
2) Set norms and standards on health and migration, including co-development of guidance and tools and promoting a research agenda to generate evidence to support decision-making and global guidance for new tools and strategies on health and migration.
3) Monitor trends, strengthen health information systems, and develop an accountability framework and indicators for progress monitoring and reporting on the Global Action Plan implementation.
4) Provide specialized technical assistance, response, and capacity-building support to Member States, WHO technical departments, regional and country offices, and partners to address public health challenges associated with human mobility wherever needed nationally and transnationally.
5) Will promote health and migration multilateral, inter-country, inter-regional, and global actions across United Nations systems, including the United Nations Network on Migration (UN Migration Network) and other intergovernmental and nongovernmental mechanisms.

Deliverables

  • Deliverable 1: Ensure the webpages of the Department follow latest corporate guidelines, are up to date and that new pages are drafted and created upon need, following guidelines and standards used in WHO to ensure consistency of approach.
  • Deliverable 2: Develop draft material to inform key stakeholders and the general public about Department’s work, activities and achievements on refugee and migrant health.
  • Deliverable 3: Develop draft knowledge sharing digital, print and background materials in line with the WHO style guide and meet WHO corporate brand guidance.
  • Deliverable 4: Draft knowledge sharing plan for the Department, ensuring the target audience is reached through usual and new platforms, including the updating of Department’s newsletter and latest mailing list.
  • Deliverable 5: Contribute to the preparation of the Department’s events, activities and milestones, including the development of material for knowledge sharing, such as draft talking points, draft dissemination plans and checklists to ensure target groups is mapped, reached and informed, etc.).

Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

Educational Qualifications:

Essential:

  • University degree in international relations, arts, humanities, social science, communications, or journalism.

Experience

Essential:

  • Up to five years of relevant experience in knowledge sharing regarding health and migration.

Desirable:

  • Experience in migration and health.
  • Experience with content management systems, such as Sitefinity.

Skills:

  • Strong report-writing skills (in English).
  • Strong skills in developing appealing and targeted knowledge sharing materials in a credible and effective way.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills combined with the ability to multi-task and produce accurate results under pressure.
  • Ability to write, synthesize and communicate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and courtesy.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

Languages required:

Essential:

  • Expert knowledge of English.

Desirable:

  • Intermediate knowledge of other UN official languages.

Off site: Home-based.

Travel

The consultant is expected to travel.

Remuneration and budget (travel costs are excluded):

Remuneration:

Band level A - USD 3,955 - 6,980 per month.

Living expenses (A living expense is payable to on-site consultants who are internationally recruited):

The Consultant shall be solely responsible for withholding and paying any taxes, duties, social security contributions and any other contributions which are applicable to the Consultant in each location/jurisdiction in which the work hereunder is performed, and the Consultant shall not be entitled to any reimbursement thereof by WHO.
