Data Selections Officer

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £31,352 to £32,919 with excellent benefits

Location: London, UK

Hybrid Working: A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face to face, either in London office, or as a result of external engagement or travel for WaterAid. WaterAid is located at Canary Wharf, London and this will be your location and contract base.

About the team:

The Campaign Planning & Selections Team, headed by the Campaign Planner & Data Selections Manager, sits within part of the Performance, Insight and Innovation Department. Working alongside the Business Insight Teams, the team is focused on ensuring that WaterAid UK adopts an insight-led and data-driven approach to maximising return on investment in fundraising and campaigning activity. This is achieved through targeted supporter communications, delivering data selections, activity monitoring and end of campaign reporting.

About the role:

The Data Selections Officer plays a vital role in understanding all communication activity broadcast by WaterAid UK, and by using SQL to extract the relevant data from the data warehouse for those campaigns. You will work closely with members of the Campaign Planning and Selection team, and the wider Performance, Insights and Innovation department, to implement new processes and procedures into your working to improve our team's efficiency and effectiveness.

You'll also:

  • Managing relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside of the Performance, Insight and Innovation Department (PIID), with a particular focus on Campaign data selections delivery.
  • Managing the scheduling and delivery of data selections and segmentations in an accurate and timely fashion, in accordance with the agreed data selection brief, deadlines, and legislation/policy.
  • Having an overview of all campaign audience activity and implementing automated data selections for campaigns that are run regularly.
  • Maintaining backend processes to update the database with communications history and marketing coding systems during campaign data selections.
  • Creating and updating Data Selections process documents, and maintaining filing systems for easy retrieval of documentation.
  • Ensuring that data selections adhere to formats as defined by the Supporter Experience + Operations team.
  • Review the data warehouse regularly to ensure processes are optimised for selections and provide wider support to the team on the data warehouse functionality.
  • Liaising with key stakeholders across the organisation to help ensure data selection briefs are interpreted accurately and that they deliver on their objectives.
  • Collaborating with Campaign Planning & Selections team members to think of creative ways of measuring campaign success through end of campaign reporting and exploring innovative solutions to maximise supporter engagement.

About you:

  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases and experience of working with large and complex data sets.
  • Extensive experience of building complex queries and producing data selections from a database package. Experience of writing SQL syntax, including the creation of views, stored procedures and processes.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • An ability to think beyond the remit of the role and to apply creative problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work to a high standard and with an eye for detail, working under own initiative and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good knowledge of data protection legislation and its application.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification or experience.
