Are you skilled and experienced in the area of Logistics in an international humanitarian context?
The British Red Cross is recruiting a logistics specialist to join our Global Surge Team. Your expertise will provide immediate technical capacity to field operations. You will increase our capacity to provide logistical assistance at short notice during any stage of the Disaster Management Cycle. This is done through a combination of operational deployments and capacity building activities.

A Day in the life of a Global Surge Logistics Advisor
In this demanding (but rewarding) role no two days are the same. But some of the typical activities you’ll be involved in might include:
  • Providing technical logistical support to response, recovery and capacity building operations undertaken by the organisation. This can include development of the logistics plan of action (PoA) and coordination and management of logistics operations. Depending on the context and operational requirements, this support will be provided through field deployments and/or remotely.
  • Determine, implement, monitor and review the logistics strategy and logistics plans of action.
  • Coordinate, pro-actively schedule and manage the supply chain and logistics support (including delegates) for the operation(s). This can include requisitioning, receiving, storing, issuing goods and logistics support to cash-based intervention.
  • Providing supervision and direction to the operation’s procurement systems. This is in coordination with Regional Logistics Units (RLUs), zone offices or country/regional/head quarter offices regarding best sourcing options.
  • Facilitate or support the delivery of organisational capacity building activities in logistics. Contribute to the revision or development of new training curricula. Where requested, provide mentoring support to other BRC delegates and staff.
This role might be for you if...
  • You are happy to work in a remote role which will require overseas travel for up to 3 months at a time.
  • You can deploy (often at short notice) to countries experiencing natural disasters or other crisis events.
  • You are comfortable and confident working in complex, multi-cultural environments.
  • You have experience in developing and implementing a full range of logistics activities. This includes assessment, developing, and implementing PoA, logistics support to cash-based interventions, procurement, contracting, transport management, warehouse management, stock control, distribution, fleet management, custom clearance, budget management, and setting & reporting key performance indicators.
  • You have sound knowledge and awareness of humanitarian responses, the actors involved, and the role of evidence-based decision making upon the delivery of humanitarian action.
  • You have a genuine affinity with the organisations purpose and drive to make a positive personal impact.
Closing date for applications is 23:59 on Wednesday 31st January 2024. Interviews are expected to take place soon after, via zoom.

In return for your commitment and expertise, what will you get?
  • Holidays: 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) + option to buy 5 extra days per annum.
  • Pension scheme: Up to 6% contributory pension.
  • Flexible working: We do our best to accommodate your preferred work style.
