Malteser International has been working in Uganda since 1996, with projects in several regions of the country. In Northern Uganda and more specifically in the West Nile region, MI is currently active in the sectors of WASH, livelihood and environment for improving the lives of both the refugee population as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water and sanitation. Livelihood and environment components complement the approach. In the capital Kampala Malteser International’s focus lies on the health sector with the development of an operative ambulance system, an improved care for physiotherapy patients and the support of an initiative for mothers of disabled children.

For its work in Kampala and Arua-Rhino Camp Uganda, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Driver – National Position.

As the Driver, you will be responsible for driving and maintaining the MI fleet in accordance with MI regulations and policies in order to support program implementation.

Your responsibilities:

  • Ensure the respect of the Ugandan traffic law while driving MI vehicles. 
  • Carry out office-outdoor messenger-related duties. 
  • Carry out daily checks before starting up the vehicle (oil level, water level, pressure of the tires, etc.) 
  • Wash the car when needed and upon request from the line manager. 
  • Fill in the logbook every day according to MI procedures. 
  • Make sure that the security toolbox and first aid kit are complete and onboard. 
  • Guarantee the good loading and unloading of the car and goods in an appropriate way

Your profile:

  • Education: minimum UCE and Experience 
  • Valid Driving permit with DL class 
  • Good interpersonal skills and good communication skills
  • Good command of the English language 
  • At least two (2) years experience as a driver with an INGO. 
  • Defensive driving added advantage
  • Experience working in the West Nile Region and knowledge of the local language is an added advantage for those applying for the Arua-Rhino Camp position.

What we offer:

  • Start Date: Immediately
  • Duty Station: 2 drivers for Kampala and 1 driver for Arua-Rhino Camp
  • Duration of contract: 1 year, with possible extension subject to donor funding.
  • Salary range: Gross UGX 1,600,000 to UGX 2,000,000; provision of an insurance package; 13th pay cheque.
  • Provision of most recent police.
