Job Description
Internship summary
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is funding this internship opportunity for recent graduates or PhD students to work at the ECMWF site in Bologna, Italy. You will have an outstanding opportunity to join a highly experienced team for a period of 6 months from September 2024 as part of the DAAD Carlo Schmid Programme for Internships in International Organizations.
You will have an opportunity to work on the development of cloud computing, containerized, and virtual machine environments, learning about how complex computer systems operate. On a day-to-day basis the candidate will assist with building and troubleshooting these systems. ECMWF runs 24/7 operational forecast production in its own data centre in Bologna, Italy. The Platform Engineering team is responsible for providing application developers and operations teams with performant and well-designed cloud computing environments.

Education, skills and experience
- Master's graduate or ecquivalent in mathematics, computer science, or engineering diploma
- Confident knowledge of written and spoken English
- Computer literate
- Some experience with Linux system administration is essential
- Any previous work experience or exposure to Linux system administration would be an significant advantage.
