Organizational Setting

The agriculture sector is a key element in contributing to and rural development in Sudan. The FAO Representation in Sudan provides technical, policy and other capacity development support within the broad context of strengthening national capacity to achieve results in the food security and livelihoods sector. FAO implements its programme in close collaboration with government line ministries, UN partners, international and national NGOs.


Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR) in Sudan, and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR for programme, and the technical guidance of the Gender Focal Point in HQ in Rome and in the Regional Office in Cairo, and in close coordination with FAO programme and projects in Sudan; the Gender Specialist will ensure the women rights and the empowerment of women and girls. The incumbent will perform the following tasks\:


Tasks and responsibilities

Act as the gender focal point for FAO Sudan and perform the following tasks\:
• Support mainstreaming gender aspects in design and implementation FAO Sudan programme and projects.
• Take the lead in conducting gender-based analysis, and contribute to the other technical analyses (economic, policy, social) required for FAO projects’ design and implementation.
• Liaise with FAO HQ and Regional Office Gender focal points to mainstream FAO’ gender standard documents into FAO Sudan programme and projects as necessary.
• Provide trainings to strengthen the capacities of FAO Sudan and its partners from government staff, Food Security and Livelihoods sector members and relevant stakeholders in Gender Equality Analysis with sex and age disaggregated data.
• Supervise awareness raising sessions on gender equality and women empowerment for targeted communities, government staff and FSL partners and provide the necessary technical guidance.
• Identify key stakeholders to support women’s rights and gender equality issues in agriculture, livestock, environment, and Natural Resources Sectors
• Integrate the key findings of the gender-based analysis in the activities of the FAO country projects.
• In collaboration with M&E experts provide inputs into defining, collecting, and analysing sex-age disaggregated data.
• Provide inputs on gender related issues to FAO country project reports.
• Perform other relevant duties.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• Minimum M.SC. Degree in sociology or other related social science.
• At least 5 years working experience
• Working knowledge (Level C) of English and Arabic
• National of Sudan
