DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

11 months, with the possibility of extension.

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Kyiv Desk Liaison Officer and the direct supervision of the CI Project Officer, the Associate Project Officer shall contribute to the work of the Communication and Information (CI) Sector in Ukraine, assisting in the implementation of the project “Supporting urgent needs to promote Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine”. This project aims to foster safety of journalists, press freedom, media viability, access to information, media information literacy and media development in Ukraine. Specifically, the incumbent shall:

  • Contribute to the successful implementation of a project by liaising with implementing partners, consultants and suppliers of project activities;

  • Support the project management by maintaining an updated project plan and checking narrative reports and deliverables submitted by implementing partners, by following the budgetary and financial situation of the project and liaising with relevant colleagues (AO, BFM); by ensuring timely reporting to the donor and UNESCO’s internal reporting tools; by providing support in the planning and execution of project activities;

  • Support project communications and outreach by drafting web stories, tweets, press releases, brochures, publications and any other communications material in cooperation with UNESCO communications teams;

  • Perform research tasks, liaise with potential partners and donors and prepare proposals for further funding acquisition in the CI mandate area;

  • Assist in assessing needs on the ground and conceptualizing further activities in line with community needs;

  • Analyze and compile background data for potential partnerships and fundraising events and opportunities and contribute to the identification of implementing partners;

  • Contribute to the organization of events in Ukraine, showcasing project results and bringing together UNESCO CI partners, by drafting event agendas, background documents, speeches, talking points, letters and any other material as requested;

  • Assist in preparing meeting agendas, talking points and other material relating to missions by UNESCO HQ staff to Ukraine and missions of the CI team in Ukraine;

  • Participate in meetings and missions to ensure smooth implementation of project activities and to represent UNESCO if required.

  • Support the preparation of UN in Ukraine coordination material contributions for the UNESCO CI sector.

  • Provide substantive, logistical and administrative support to projects and activities.

  • Strong communication skills, including the preparation of communication material and reports.

Academic qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in political science, international relations, human rights, international development, journalism, media related studies or in another area covered by UNESCO’s Communication and Information sector.

Professional experience  

  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience on topics within the field of human rights and development
  • Experience in contributing to project management, fundraising and donor relations.
  • Experience in organizing events and conferences on human rights and development topics.

Languages

Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Ukrainian

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Relevant professional experience in UN System or at the international level.
  • Professional experience in the Ukrainian media or media development sector or within a human rights organization defending the right to freedom of expression.

 

REMUNERATION

The starting base annual salary for this post is 23950 USD, excluding medical and pension coverage (up to 15% from the base salary) and danger allowance. 

The remuneration paid is not exempt from any income tax which may be levied by the tax authorities in the country where work is performed or any other tax authorities.
