Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's Economy Division provides solutions to decision-makers and helps change the business environment by offering platforms for multi-stakeholder dialogue and cooperation, innovative policy options, pilot projects and creative market mechanisms to improve the quality of the environment and the well-being of citizens. It promotes sustainable patterns of consumption and production and the efficient use of natural resources, ensures safe management of chemicals and contributes to making trade and environmental policies mutually supportive. The Economy Division has successfully implemented projects at the global level, in the areas of sustainable lifestyles and education domains such as food, fashion, leisure and mobility, life cycle applications, eco-innovation, cleaner production, sustainable tourism, sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and consumer information. The Consumption and Production Unit, Resources and Markets Branch of the Economy Division promotes Resource Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in governments and businesses worldwide. One focus area of the Unit is to promote sustainable lifestyles and education utilizing tools such as, the Anatomy of Action and the Good Life Goals, by working with partners and institutions at a global scale, identifying opportunities for collaboration along those value chains and implementing interventions, as well as convening relevant stakeholders to promote sustainable living and education goals. This intern post is located in the Consumption and Production Unit at the Paris duty station, supporting the work of the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme. As an intern you will directly report to the Programmer Officer of the Unit. Please indicate your preferred start date in your application based on your availability (January or July 2023). The internship will last for a duration of six (6) months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35- 40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. An internship in the UN Environment Programme may be of interest if you: ● Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; ● Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programmer Officer, Consumption and Production Unit (CPU). The intern will work on CPU projects and also on implementation of activities related to the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme, which contribute to the related One Planet Network activities. Duties may include, but are not limited to: ● Managing the social media presence of the Anatomy of Action within different social media platforms to promote the initiative’s values and educational content. ● Planning and developing social media strategies and campaigns. ● Developing compelling content and posting it on various social media platforms. ● Analyzing public engagement and being on top of the latest social media trends. ● Assisting with the preparation and follow-through of collaborative work with universities. ● Substantive drafting of correspondence. ● Assisting in various research-based tasks associated with the projects of the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education team. ● Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings, including providing technical assistance during virtually-held meetings. ● Organizing and updating the CPU folder on the P-drive. ● Assisting the CPU team with the implementation of projects, preparing documents in English or other relevant language and liaising with contacts from 10YFP SLE Programme Partner organizations or project countries. ● Support drafting of substantive inputs to correspondence, briefs, presentations and project documents as well as assist in the organization of meetings with its meeting minutes drafted The selected candidate will commence internship either February 2024 or June 2024. Qualifications/special skills
A. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Communications, Marketing or Design, Sustainable Development, Economics, Environmental Studies, Policymaking or related. B. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); C. Have graduated with a university degree. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
