Description

Under the direct authority of the Head of the Strategy, Programme and Coordination Office, you will provide support on policy, programmatic and strategic matters related to Earth Observation (EO).

Duties

To provide a service to the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes (D/EOP), your responsibilities would include contributions and support to:

 

  •   preparing programme, policy and strategy papers related to ESA’s EO activities in the context of European and international partners;
  •   reflections on the evolution of ESA’s EO programmes;
  •   preparing programme proposals and related documents for ESA Ministerial Councils, including studies on the economic-, social-, and environmental benefits of Earth Observation;
  •   interacting with ESA corporate services in order to support EOP reporting, including on the overall strategy, vision and aims of the Agency;
  •   Ad hoc tasks, as needed, in support of the Director of Earth Observation programmes or the Head of Office, including the preparation of briefings and speeches on programme and strategy matters.

Education

A master's degree in space policy, law, engineering, environmental science or economics is required for this post.

Additional requirements

  • Ability to work independently and to set priorities among the diverse range of tasks which form part of the role
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Experience interfacing and networking with international partners at all levels and in multiple contexts
  • Familiarity with socio-economic/benefit analysis studies

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

In accordance with the European Space Agency’s security procedures and as part of the selection process, successful candidates will be required to undergo basic screening before appointment conducted by an external background screening service. 

 

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
