The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation.  The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.  Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy countries beyond IEA. The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability across the globe.

THE POSITION

The Energy Technology Policy Division (ETP) of the Directorate of Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks (STO) focuses on supporting the development and deployment of new and emerging clean energy technologies. One important part of the work of the ETP division is the coordination of the IEA’s Energy Technology Network that is comprised of the Committee for Energy Research and Technology (CERT), its Working Parties, one expert group on R&D, and 39 Technology Collaboration Programmes (TCPs). The IEA’s Energy Technology Network is the central element of IEA multilateral engagement on energy technologies with IEA member and partner countries, industry and other stakeholders.

This position in the ETP division will support a range of activities under the IEA energy technology network, focusing in particular on planning and priority-setting, events, communication and internal coordination. Other tasks will include responsibility for coordinating high-level events and workshops.

The person will work closely with the IEA’s Clean Energy Technology Officer and a team of enthusiastic professionals in a collegial, dynamic and busy environment.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate key components of IEA’s energy technology network, including

  • The planning and priority-setting for IEA’s support to the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP), in close collaboration with the IEA Chief Energy Technology Officer and the internal TCP coordination team within the IEA Secretariat;
  • Activites related to TCP communication, in close collaboration with IEA member governments, the TCPs, and the IEA Secretariat;
  • Planning and executing TCP event management, including preparations of the biennial TCP Universal meetings;
  • Coordinate on behalf of the Directorate the IEA desk officers’ and their support to individual TCPs;

Other functions

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of ETP’s high-level events and workshops, ensuring the highest standards.
  • Help support the Energy Technology Policy Division with the organization of Committee and Working Party meetings, as needed.
  • Provide advice and support to the Chief Energy Technology Officer and the Energy Technology Policy Division on communication.
  • Support the Energy Technology Policy Division with other project and processes to improve the division’s effectiveness.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background:

  • A university degree(s)in either statistics, economics, public policy or technical subject relevant to energy or related field(s).

Professional Background

  • At least three years professional experience working in an International environment.
  • A broad understanding of the energy sector and climate related issues.
  • Strong experience with event management and communication.
  • Experience and interest in project management, involving leading small teams to deliver outputs.

Additional Information

Languages

  • Excellent spoken and written English. Knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.

Selection Process

All applications are screened based on the criteria for the position. For candidates who are screened-in, written tests and/or video-recorded interviews are foreseen in the first half of February, and panel interviews are planned for early March 2024.

Contract Duration

  • Two-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
