The Role

If so then you may be our next Director, Donor Partnerships for the Africa Frontline First Initiative

Africa Frontline First (AFF) Initiative aims to support ten countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to build high-functioning, resilient, country-led community health service delivery with an expanded and institutionalized health workforce of 200,000 CHWs by 2030. Anchored within the local context and health reform journey of each country, these shifts in community health service delivery will contribute to reducing excess morbidity and mortality from COVID-19, Malaria, TB, and HIV, prevent maternal and child mortality, advance health security, and accelerate economic recovery at the community level following the pandemic. In turn, these investments in community health are critical to progress on the health SDGs, including ending AIDS, TB, and Malaria, expanding universal health coverage (UHC), and as well as ensuring effective pandemic preparedness and response to COVID-19 and future pandemics. 

The Director of Donor Partnerships at Africa Frontline First (AFF) is entrusted with the critical responsibility of charting the strategic course and overseeing the holistic management of fundraising initiatives. In this pivotal role, the individual will lead the formulation and execution of a highly compelling fundraising strategy designed to attain AFF's funding objectives. As the organization's representative, the Director will collaborate extensively with a diverse array of stakeholders, leveraging strategic leadership to build robust relationships and drive impactful fundraising endeavours.

The Director will be at the helm of a dynamic team, guiding them in the development of donor engagement strategies, the creation of impactful content, and the meticulous stewardship of funding partners. This collective effort aims to cultivate a committed donor community aligned with AFF's mission and values. This role is to ensure the organization's enduring impact on healthcare initiatives across the African continent, fostering resilience and meaningful change.

This role is open to national and international candidates located in or willing to relocate to Accra, Ghana. This role is also open to candidates located in the Eastern Seaboard of the United States with US work authorization. This role is fully remote in the US and Hybrid in Ghana. 

What you’ll do

Strategy & Management

  • In coordination with AFF, Financing Alliance for Health (FAH) and LMH leadership, develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to finance the short- and long-term expansion of AFF
  • Leverage research, landscape & programmatic knowledge, and fundraising expertise to make strategic recommendations on strategy, cultivation, stewardship, and execution
  • Provide AFF leadership with guidance and clear directives to drive donor acquisition and stewardship  
  • Ensure fit-for-purpose preparation, accompaniment and follow-up to donor stewardship meetings taken by Executives and/or Program staff
  • When necessary, represent AFF in meetings and convenings with high-level stakeholders, independently advancing relationship goals with priority organizations where possible
  • Coordinate with diverse stakeholders across the AFF Collaborative - including AFF, FAH and LMH development teams - as needed to provide cohesive partner engagement

Fund Development & Partner Relationship Stewardship

  • Drive the development and implementation of AFF’s partnership strategy and recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve partnership objectives
  • Oversee and strengthen systems for relationship management and partner communications, including processes for ensuring the inclusivity of AFF Collaborative colleagues in partner stewardship systems
  • Build and steward strategic partnerships within the global health financing landscape to develop long-term, sustainable funding for AFF operations and successful implementation of community healthcare programs
  • Facilitate regular coordination meetings across AFF Collaborative relating to programmatic planning and growth to inform engagement strategies
  • Leverage AFF members’ relationships with ecosystem actors to increase engagement with potential partners
  • Manage staff to develop and implement cultivation plans, including crafting pitches & asks
  • Direct staff in ongoing stewardship using a high-touch engagement model
  • Maintain responsiveness to inbound requests from donor and ecosystem partners
  • Implement and evolve stewardship practices to ensure high-quality donor engagement 

Team Management & Capacity Building

  • Manage and support a high-performing team to execute donor engagement strategy to meet fundraising targets
  • Support recruitment and onboarding for new development staff members
  • Effectively communicate strategic priorities to direct reports, and support prioritization of work streams and deliverables to ensure achievement of annual objectives and key results
  • Ensure the team has sufficient structure and clear priorities in place to execute high-quality fundraising and relationship management strategy
  • Identify existing gaps in team capacity and provide mentorship and capacity building to team members to improve performance

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree  in a relevant field; MBA, MPP, or MPH
  • Progressive years of experience in developing & executing strategy with a cross-functional & diverse group of stakeholders 
  • Demonstrated management experience, ideally working across remote teams in multiple countries
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft and effectively communicate key messages
  • Proven planning & logistics experience 
  • Ability to assess existing systems and processes & recommend improvements aligned to organizational and team objectives 
  • Proven prioritization skills

  • You have experience designing organizational and/or team strategy
  • You are a highly effective manager able to think strategically about programming and revenue generation

  • Experience in health, global health, or international development

ForGhana and theUnited States, the range is $90,966 - $113,018 dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
